Digital Rebel

Thanks to Geetan for suggesting this caption for an additional album in my orkut account of few dozens of albums (and still counting..). Instead, I am using it here. Geetan, orkut will have it too in a few days :)

I had been toying with the idea of getting myself a luxury, an object of affection that may give me all the company I need in solitude. First, I thought of getting an i-Pod but naaaah, I would rather sing to myself. The next idea was to get a couple of books, but the ones which are still lying untouched on my rack (No Shreya, I am not talking about Shantaram. I am reading it...err... since the last 8 months :P) gave me such a look of contempt that I thought it better not to invoke their wrath on me. While, the idea of a sexy DSLR was always there in my mind, I never was able to save those odd 2000CHFs one might need to get it. I have been taking snapshots and some very nice ones most of which have Abhinav modeling for me. Yeah, no pretty chick, but an overgrown hirsute Himesh Reshammiya imitating, huge package inviting (I mean salary here) crazy electrical engineer turned tharki song singing MBA.. I mean.. honestly, how boring can it get for my poor cybershot...but anyways. Since the range and beauty my little Sony cybershot could capture was severely restricted, especially, if you are on the lake and you want to capture some sun bathing beauties, it just couldn't zoom enough.. I mean.. you know.. at the right places.
Then, there I had some super brilliant photographer freinds in my orkut whose regular updates made me go 'Whoaaaa, wish I could take some of those!!.' I guess, photography interests me, but more than that, the idea of being with a moment that is yours and the fact that it's you who can capture that moment in a vivid display of colors or the sepia sombreness, makes me so attracted to it. I remember those old days when I didn't have a digital camera. I had a Yashika my brother gifted me. I was so happy that it was this automatic one in which the film made a ghhrrrr sound and went to the next one, ready to click unlike the others where you had to manually slide the film for the next shot. I have some of the greatest memories captured with it and safely arranged in many of those expensive and cheap albums. Memories, like my last day in school; impromptu long biking with friends; birth of my nephew and niece; pictures of my Nana and Nani where I made my Nana put his arms around my Nani bollywood style and they were blushing pink doing that in front of their children and a army of grandchildren, and every time I see that pic it reminds me of the coaxing I had to do to get them pose and the laughter it brought to all of us. First, I was so restricted to take only good shots so that I don't finish the 35-odd film a roll contained. And, then there was this agonizing wait for the pictures after you gave them to develop. And sometimes, you realized only later that some of the pictures turned out so bad that you cringe with no avail. The digital cameras are such a boon. You see if your "double chin" is visible or not and then pose for another one with a better profile. No moment missed, except for as our "Aditi Andolan" would angrily say (with some Kutte Kameeney added)-"Except for the time we could have utilised sight seeing and not missing the boats."

Sushil ji (one of those super brilliant photographers, whose picture got selected in BBC!) once commented on one of my cybershot pics-"You have it in you, you just need a better hardware!"
So, here I am, a proud owner of the Canon EOS 500D / Rebel T1i DSLR.

The features are amazing and it is extremely light. Unfortunately, the Swiss weather just made a UK weather imitation and is doing pretty well at it. So, here I am with my camera indoors writing this blog instead of clicking sun bathing beauties on the lake ;). Now, just moving my fingers over its dark curvaceous body and not pressing any buttons (I am talking of the camera again, you dirty minds;) )

But, I sincerely am looking forward to capture some more memories, beautiful ones, new ones and unfortunately [and probably (hoping)] ones of farewell too. Strange now that I have it, I am not thinking of those ooh aah exclamation ensuing pictures but pictures with some more of my friends posing, some more of them making strange faces and some more of them filling up my picassa albums.. Yes, even the albums are different now, but the story and inspiration behind all this remains the same... Love.. for that's why we want to capture people who would fly out to new lives or to old nests, with whatever we have to capture them. I am sure this new version of DSLR would do a great job at it...

If any difficult issues arise today, you might be inclined to become a little moody or withdrawn and want to keep things to yourself rather than trying to talk things through. Just be aware that if you don't change this approach, you could end up experiencing some real conflicts in your personal relationships right now.

You could find yourself feeling a bit torn between some family obligations and some romantic interests today, but you might not really have the energy to deal with either at the moment। You may just want to see if you can arrange some type of romantic evening around the house that won't take you too far away from your other concerns right now.

Now, I am shocked!! It is hitting the bull's eye second day in a week..

You might not be thinking very clearly at the moment, and a number of issues might seem a little confusing or unclear to you today. Just realize that you'll probably have to spend some time trying to sort out a few financial or domestic matters that could really use a little attention right now.

Just be aware that you might not be expressing yourself very well today. And if any misunderstandings occur with someone close to you, you might be inclined to keep your feelings to yourself a bit. But you should really try not to let any negative feelings come between you and someone you care about right now.

Sometimes I wonder, how do they say it so true!!!!

A Moment of True Love!!

Hi guys,
Was browsing through my old mails and suddenly found this one I had written to my "Chalbunde group" in Zurich (Well, it's a group of weird nerdy scientists who go crazy sometimes!!). It was on Valentine's Day when Ajit Bhaiya asked us to share that one moment of true love that defined our lives.
And now, months after that I suddenly see this mail and thought, why not put it up here!
Hope you like it and may be add to it your own moment of true love.

***************************************************

One moment of true love that defined my life is in the form of a 5 Rupee note!!

I had gone home for vacations during my graduation. Had great fun and it was time to come back. It was my 1st vacation and the 1st time that I had lived away from home and family. It was also the 1st time my Bhanja Rishu had lived without me. To those of you who don't know, I have brought him up since he was 2 years old and he is more close to me than to my sister-his mother. So more than me, it was more difficult for Rishu to live without me but he is a strong guy (at his age, yeah, he does not cry at such situations ever!! )

Now, my parents were counting money to give to me and it was coming short of what I was supposed to take with me. Rishu had a small piggy bank that he had bought just one day before and all he had in that was a 5 Rupee note to begin with, that he got from somewhere. He brought me that very 5 rupee note (which was all he had) and gave to me saying that he will send me more when he saves some more in the next few days. He was only 4 at that time!! How many of us will give all we have at our age to someone we love??

I still carry that 5 Rupee in my pocket always and I know at least there is one person who could do that for me.

Till next valentine,
Keep loving,
मीत.....
